Biography
Terry Mann is a composer, musical instrument maker and performer of early and folk music.
As a composer he has had pieces performed at major contemporary music festivals around the world. His award-winning acoustic music has been performed by artists such as Joanna MacGregor, the Hilliard Ensemble and the Orlando Consort.
He won second place in the highly prestigious 2005 PRSF New Music Award. The piece, The Bells of Paradise, was then commissioned by the 2007 Spitalfields, Bury St.Edmunds, Lichfield and Norfolk and Norwich festivals. In 2008 it was nominated for a BACS composers award, and has been played on BBC radio 3 and 4, Classic Fm and Resonance Fm radio. He was also a finalist in the 2010 PRSF New Music Award for his proposal Automata Musica.
In 2009 he was commissioned by choreographer Rosemary Lee for Common Dance; a combination of live choral music and acousmatic soundscore funded by the PRS Foundation, RVW Trust and the RPS John Drummond Fund. Since then he has worked with Rosemary on several pieces. The film of one of the pieces "Liquid Gold is the Air" won the Light Moves Festival Prize 2015 in Limerick (International Dance Festival).
His music has been described as "compelling”, “elegantly written", “haunting” and “beautiful”, and has been published by OUP and ABRSM.
As a maker, he has exhibited at various early and folk music festivals in Europe. His instruments can be ordered online direct (contact through this site), or through the Early Music Shop.
